CONGRESS OF THE FCFQ - 2010

Workshops

Are your members loyal?

The very essence of the cooperative movement, the loyalty of members to their organization will continue to be an ongoing challenge for each of our cooperatives. Quality of service, economic and social development, environmental impact, membership advantages, civic education, demystification of death and its taboos, information – these are all reasons to become a member, and remain one to the very end. Easier said than done, you say? Many original ideas on recruitment and loyalty building spring straight from the minds of cooperators in our network. Why not appropriate a few for the benefit of everyone? Winning approaches and local distinctions! Some representatives of cooperatives will be coming to and present their winning strategy for building membership, developing the sense of belonging, and maintaining the loyalty of their members. Who are these mysterious beings? The secret shall be well guarded until Saturday, May 29, 2010. Come find out!

Concrete actions for a viable and sustainable funeral cooperative

François Thiboutôt

A well-known journalist and columnist, François Thiboutôt has had a 25-year career working in television news and public affairs at Radio-Canada, TQS and Télé-Québec. But he is first and foremost a great lover of life and nature. Such is his commitment to safeguarding the planet and living creatures that he has decided to dedicate his career to these subjects as an engaged communicator. An invaluable reference in the areas of sustainable development and responsible consumer affairs in Quebec, Mr. Thiboutôt will be offering a lecture that has been customized for funeral cooperatives. For as we know so well, we can all of us do many little things to help be part of the solution, rather than the problem.

Funeral cooperatives in England

Simon Fisher

Mr. Simon Fisher, general manager of the Midcounties Co-operative Funeral Service in England, will give a presentation on the third largest consumer cooperative in the United Kingdom. In addition to operating 69 funeral establishments, this cooperative, which has 7,000 employees, works in the food trade, travel, pharmacy and child care sectors.  Mr. Fisher will also take this opportunity to offer you an overview of the funeral market in Great Britain and speak about the multi-sectoral cooperatives model.

Pleasure and performance

Jean-Luc Tremblay

The polar opposite to traditional organizational paradigms and intellectual models, this innovative management template, developed in Quebec by Mr. Jean-Luc Tremblay, goes beyond all existing management philosophies. Mr. Tremblay has propelled many management boards and organizations to surprising heights, as has been demonstrated on Radio-Canada’s Enjeux program.  He is convinced that people who are happy produce more, and better. He proposes an original management approach, with abundant examples and courses of action, which is based on the constituents of pleasure.  Tinged with humour, this surprisingly realistic lecture will reveal to us the serious side of pleasure. It will offer us time to stop and think about the quality of our working life. Not to be missed!
